Where OpenRouter is the better choice
- Cheaper for the exact same models: 5.5% on credit top-ups versus Redline’s 15% on usage, on the identical catalogue. Redline is strictly a pricier way to reach OpenRouter models.
- More of everything: 20+ free models, BYOK with $25k/month fee-free, provider routing and fallbacks, per-request ZDR and data-collection filters, org guardrails and in-region routing. Redline exposes a subset.
Where Redline is different
- Redline enforces a cap by reserving the worst-case cost and clamping max_tokens before the call, so a key cannot overrun its lifetime or monthly cap. OpenRouter documents caps but not how an in-flight request that would cross one is handled.
- Redline returns a signed receipt (HMAC over the prompt’s SHA-256) on every call and states a 90-day metadata window. Note your prompts still reach OpenRouter underneath Redline, so OpenRouter’s policy also applies.
FAQ
Is Redline just a markup on OpenRouter?
For the model price, yes: Redline adds 15% over OpenRouter’s list price. What you pay the extra for is the hard per-key spend caps, the zero-retention receipt, and the uncensored positioning. If you do not need those, OpenRouter direct is cheaper.
